Meissonier sketches and photos

Il Signor Annibale 15x10cm
I dont know what the armors and helmets
are painter for. Perhaps
they are just general
studies of
shapes, textures etc. aspects of armors. I suspect that they are not studies for one certain painting.
Meissoniers drawings after the Muybridge
photos. Or just tracings over the photos

These are photographs Meissonier studied
when he made studies for the paintings that
had running horses. The photographs are
taken by Eadweard Muybridge.

From this you can really see, what scale he usually painted.

Perhaps the same window, that was
on the backround "Reading Man Near the
Window 1853" "Man Dressed in

and other interiors

Delightful blogspot about a little known artist today. It's a great reminder that fine painters are invariably superb draftsmen.
